Mapping Myself Around Our Room
Client Work
In Dreamsitting, domestic space becomes still and suspended. A dining room table, a porch, and a hallway are illuminated and inhabited. Through self portraiture, intense and honed in lighting, and flash, I look to construct the home as dreamlike, reflecting on themes of privacy and interiority. Inspired by the comfort of solitude, I aim to tap into the peace and mental space of night time, both in reality and in the mind. In this series, I capture and construct this spatial wandering and nesting.
Using bright lights and dark settings, I present the casual home space as something more ambiguous and cinematic. The physical spaces captured come to resemble the ways in which we get lost in thought and fantasy within the comfort of a home. I present the figure, myself (both me and the performance of me), in a variety of ways. The figure is both confrontational in their gaze and relaxed in their demeanor. Sitting at the table or by a door, the figure is given the space to wander through light and space, through the night and through the home.
Dreamsitting is a rest, a stillness, and a wandering via a series of photos of a home and the person who lives there.
